Well… it wasn’t quite the fairytale ending the Hunters were hoping for this weekend, but it was memorable. We travelled to Wisbech full of enthusiasm (and perhaps mild denial), only to concede our first goal within 30 seconds. A strong start… just not for us.
From there, the Hunters dug in for what can only be described as a heroic display of stamina, humour, and sheer survival instincts. Ros in goal was an absolute legend — facing more shots than a bartender on a Saturday night and still keeping her cool. The defence of Ali C, Imogen, Esme, and Rayhana did everything short of building a wall to hold back Wisbech’s relentless attack.
In the midfield, Stacey, Ali T, and Lizzie ran their socks off (and possibly their souls), chasing every ball and refusing to give up even when the odds were about 10–0 against us. Stacey’s endless energy and smart play earned her a well-deserved Player of the Match.
Up front, Emily S, Maya, Jenny, and Holly worked hard to break through Wisbech’s iron-clad defence. Special mention to Holly, who kept team morale high — not just with her effort on the pitch but also with the accidental ventilation feature in her leggings, proudly earning Lemon of the Match.
Despite the scoreline, the Hunters stayed positive, supported each other brilliantly, and, most importantly, were rewarded with delicious pizza after the game. Lovely opponents, great team spirit, and plenty of laughs — what more could you ask for (apart from maybe a few goals)?
Onwards and upwards, Hunters — we’ll get them next time!
