Here you go! I like trying to mention everyone in a match report, I think I got us all but let me know if I've missed anyone!
This week saw the Hunters 1st team facing off against Cambridge City L6 in a challenging away match marked by fluctuating weather conditions. The game started under light showers, which intensified as the first half progressed but eased slightly in the second half.
Hunters began the match with determination, capitalizing on an unusual start for Cambridge City, who initially fielded no goalkeeper. After 10 minutes, the City keeper arrived, leading to a brief stoppage for clarification on uniform colors, as her black attire matched that of the Hunters. This interruption allowed us a moment to regroup and strategize.
Defensively, the quartet of Bev, Lisa, Jade and Cora put in a solid performance. While Jade occasionally opted for footwork over stick play, the defense held firm. However, Cambridge City struck first, scoring after 15 minutes following a barrage of shots that tested the reflexes of our goalkeeper, Ros, who made several impressive saves.
Undeterred, the Hunters responded with renewed vigor, driven by Taylah, Amy, and Paula’s energetic runs up the pitch. Their persistence paid off in the 25th minute when Amy unleashed a powerful shot that deflected off a City player’s foot. After a tense five-minute deliberation among the umpires, the goal was confirmed, bringing the score to 1-1.
The first half concluded with the teams locked in a draw, and an impassioned speech from captain Paula inspired the Hunters for the second half. Both teams emerged with a renewed focus and our midfielders Lou, Amy and Taylah excelled in intercepting play and pushing the ball forward.
Emily, Maria and Stacey showcased their skills with notable drives into the D, yet the Hunters struggled to convert their opportunities into goals. Despite several short corner chances, the finishing touch eluded them. Special mention goes to Stacey, who made her debut for the first team, demonstrating great perseverance and determination throughout the match.
As the match neared its conclusion, Cambridge City managed to score again, clinching the game 2-1 in a tight contest.
A further special mention goes to Stacey, Maria, and Ros, who all stepped up to play for the Development team immediately after the match, showing their unwavering commitment for the beautiful game.
Player of the Match went to Ros, for her outstanding goalkeeping performance.
